'Sabrina Setlur' History:
AboutSetlur was the youngest daughter born to Indian immigrants in Frankfurt am Main but was primarily raised in Bad Soden and Schwalbach am Taunus. In her High School years she met Thomas Hofmann, co-founder of the late 3p label. After a spontaneous performance of Dr Dre's "Nuthin' But a "G" Thang" Hofmann and friend Moses Pelham encouraged her to appear on the early Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt track "Wenn Es Nicht Hart Ist" in 1993. Afterwards Setlur quit studying Business administration and instead signed a record deal with 3p. In 1995 Setlur released her first solo single "Hier Kommt Die Schwester / Pass Auf" under her pseudonym Schwester S., followed-up by her debut album S Ist Soweit. The album became a critical and commercial success with a peak position on #11 on the German albums chart and in the following year Sabrina received an ECHO Award for "Best National Artist". Besides Setlur became the host of her own radio show on hr3. After 3p's sudden major label change in 1997 Setlur released her second album Die Neue S-Klasse under her birth name in February of the same year. The album debuted at #10 on the albums chart and spawned Setlur's first and only #1 single "Du Liebst Mich Nicht", whose sales earned her another ECHO and a Comet award for "Best Female Artist". In the meantime Setlur was featured on singles by Faithless ("Bring My Family Back") and newcomer Xavier Naidoo ("Freisein"). In 1999 Setlur's third album Aus Der Sicht Und Mit Den Worten Von ... outperformed the success of its predecessors when it peaked at #3 on the German albums chart. Though its singles couldn't link to previous accomplishments, the album's sales earned Setlur a third ECHO for "Best Female Artist". A few months later Sabrina constantly hit the headlines when paparazzis revelead her relationship to former tennis star Boris Becker. The couple separated shortly afterwards, but due to conflicting rumours about anorexia Setlur's name mainatined popular in magazines and papers. After a longer time-out Sabrina Setlur released her fourth album Sabs in November 2003. The record spawned four singles (including "Liebe", a collaboration she used to contend for the Eurovision Song Contest) and became at Top 10 success. Furthermore the rapper appeared as a jury member in the third installment of the German reality television series Popstars. Currently, Setlur's working in her fifth album which is scheduled for a late 2007 release. source: Wikipedia |
