UK Garage Rock The Americans have garage rock and the British have UK Garage – a completely unrelated phenomenon founded on digital beats. So never mind that. All the same, the English do value a grungy garage rock band, judging from the jolly adventures of M.A.S.S. Garage rock purists will appreciate their antecedents: they recorded their first single in the on principle analogous London studio Toe Rag, where The White Stripes recorded their ‘Elephant’. Furthermore, M.A.S.S. played as a support with those same Stripes, but also with the Libertines and the Datsuns. One of the quintet’s strongest trump cards are the tempting vocals of Justine, a spicy lady that calls to mind the days of Elastica or – in some – will evoke sweaty fantasies about a young Debbie Harry involved in a gang bang with The Strokes.
