'Leszek Dlugosz' History:

About

Leszek Dlugosz – poet, singer, composer, and legendary persona from the artistic ambiance of Krakow. Although he is best known for his appearances at the "Piwnica Pod Baranami" cabaret, Krakow’s most famous art locale, he has an impressively diverse artistic history. His distinctive creative style has been a mainstay of the Polish artistic world since the 1960’s, but no decade possesses him; he progresses with the times, and so does his artistic style.

His past creations have always served as a base for new ideas, expression and emotion. His style has aged like a fine wine, giving proof of his mastery. His texts are light and lyrical, with a bit of irony and a dash of humor. The constants in his style are the insights won from deep thoughts about existence, which provide a subtle psychological ideology.

Leszek Dlugosz studied at the Jagiellonski University in Krakow, majoring in Polish Linguistics; also at the Polish Higher School of Theater (Polska Wyzsza Szkola Teatralna) majoring in acting. Music he has studied since childhood. He began his career as an author and performer in the Jagiellonski University’s Theater Hefajstos. In 1963 he won the Student’s Song Competition in Krakow, and a year later he joined the "Piwnica Pod Baranami" cast. He performed at this venue continuously until 1978, when he began a career of solo performances, but he declares that he will always consider himself a part of "Piwnica Pod Baranami"; the atmosphere of the venue lives within his heart. His debut as a poet took place in 1973 with the publication of Lekcje Rytmiki. He has since published many books of poetry and lyrics, and has issued several CD’s. He has become well known as a radio and television personality, and is the leader of an informal Poetic Club in Krakow. He has performed around Europe, in Siberia, Mongolia, Canada and the US.
