Bio Howe Gelb Howe Gelb’s audience has learned to expect the unexpected. So when this mainstay of the Tucson, Arizona music scene and frontman of the independent-spirited Giant Sand released an album with a gospel choir, it came as no real surprise. When the album, 'Sno Angel ... Like You, started getting five-star reviews in magazines such as Mojo, it was no surprise either. Gelb has been making music since the mid 1970s. Influenced at various times by the Rolling Stones, T.Rex, Neil Young and the New York new wave scene, he has fashioned a home-grown style of rock and sustained a career through creating music by gut reaction.
Howe Gelb and the Voices of Praise, resulting from a chance meeting with the choir at Ottawa Bluesfest, is a grand experiment that works handsomely, meshing Gelb’s low, friendly drawl and folk, soul and blues songs with the choir’s glorious sound.
