The earliest seeds of Broderick germinated in Southampton, in pubs such as O’Malleys and The Talking Heads, where Colm, Don and later, Clare would meet up with various other musicians for regular sessions. They heard about a new venue opening in Oxford in the spring of 2000, and decided to take a look and have yet another session. Fate stepped in that afternoon in the shape of a Mr. Luke Daniels, who was introduced to the Southampton three. A few tunes and several pints later the idea of a band was put forward; Broderick was born.
Some rehearsals, some photos and an album later, Rick turned up. He was another Southampton musician, well-known locally as a superb jazz double-bassist. He agreed to come along to a rehearsal, liked what he heard, and is now a permanent member of the band. Shortly afterwards came a run of summer festivals in the UK, further gigs in the USA and Italy, and most recently, a second album, Cortanze Castle."
