'Attractions [US]' History:
BioIn 1965 a group of teenagers from Burlington, NC formed a local band in the basement of Hatley Music Store. In a very short time the band received an invitation to audition for Ted Hall at Hit Attractions booking agency in Charlotte, NC. The following weekend the local band became THE ATTRACTIONS. One of the biggest jobs starting out was a performance in Charlotte on stage with Curtis Mayfield and The Impressions. In a very short time the group was on stage at all the local colleges and clubs. A favorite club in Greensboro was The Castaways. During the summer months the band headed to Myrtle Beach to perform at Donnie's and The Beach Club. THE ATTRACTIONS opened for and were the backup band for well known performers such as The Tams, Clifford Curry, Jimmy Ruffin, The Fifth Dimension and The Platters along with numerous other top recording artists of the day. After a year together as a group, a new booking agency in Greensboro, The Jokers Three Productions started to book THE ATTRACTIONS. During that same time a release of "39-21-40 Shape" by The Showmen became very popular in the southeast. THE ATTRACTIONS, with its big horn section, grouped with The Showmen and for two years traveled all over doing concerts. As the group's members started to go off to college and to the Vietnam War, the original band began to fall apart. New members tried to keep the band going but in a short time the group known as THE ATTRACTIONS was no more. Years went by as the original members were busy building their careers. But the love for playing music was still a part of them. A few of the members kept playing on weekends with different groups and the other members were still holding onto the dream of being on stage once again. In November of 1999, after 30 years, a reunion was put together. Some of the original members, Wayne Church, Ronnie Lee and Keevin Smith, along with the help from some local talent, Mike Beavers and Tony Hall went from rehearsing once a month to once a week. Now we are keeping busy playing almost every weekend! To add to his talent we brought in David Baysden to play bass guitar and sing. Howard Eaton, original member of the famous "Inmen Ltd" is now playing trumpet and vocal and Terry Batson from Batson & Chase (they won "New Band Of The Year" at the 2004 Cammy Award Show) is now singing lead vocal. Garth Hutson, original member of the Inmen Ltd, he will be on stage playing trumpet and backup vocals. He is an "Award Winner Of The Brass" along with Ronnie, Howard & Wayne, The Attactions Band are proud to say we have the best of the best horn section! And to top it all off we have added Mark Hammer, the B3 player extraordinaire. Of course, running sound for the Attractions is none other than Mitch Hensdale .
