Alejandro Escovedo is a star in all but fame and wealth. Throughout his fourteen-year solo career, he has received rapturous critical praise and he enjoys an ever-expanding, devoted audience thanks to the breadth of his musical vision, his depth of expression and the sheer musicality of his work.
Born into a mighty musical dynasty - his brothers Pete and Coke fired the rhythm into Santana and his niece is superstar singer-percussionist Sheila E - he took up guitar at college in the 1970s, played with seminal San Francisco punks The Nuns and proto alt-country band Rank & File before blazing a trail of rock ’n’roll fury in the now legendary True Believers with his brother Javier.
Since going solo, he has released a series of excellent albums, the latest, The Boxing Mirror, produced by John Cale, blending searing rock ‘n’ roll, touching romanticism and honest lyricism into his most accomplished work.
