'Adam Pfeffer' History:
BiographyAdam Pfeffer grew up on Long Island and began composing at age 13. He immediately started recording his music to learn more about the fantasyland he was using as an escape. His music quickly became a diary for himself as well as entertainment for others. Adam had originally played trumpet, but by age 13 felt limited by the trumpet's monophonic nature. He studied trumpet with John Brierly (Buddy Rich's Band) and piano with Mike Perticone, Larry Meyer (Lennie Tristano's student), Wes Belcamp, and Billy Foster (Chicago player). By this time Adam had already begun teaching improvisational skills to others, and winning several talent competitions for the performances of his original compositions. After playing in several rock bands, Adam became tired of taking a creative back-seat to guitarists, so he learned how to play guitar as well as piano. This improved Adam's compositional skills, as well as his ability to communicate with guitarists in a band setting. Adam prefers to perform original music whenever possible. His influences include: Lennie Tristano, Don Pullen, Keith Jarrett, Keith Emerson, Chick Corea, Brad Mehldau, Thelonious Monk, Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Cecil Taylor, Sun Ra, Jaki Byard, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Skinny Puppy, Frank Zappa, Squarepusher, Amon Tobin, Steely Dan, Rush, Slayer, and many more. Adam possesses a degree in electrical engineering from Valparaiso University and now works as a software engineer to make a living. Though studying engineering and working full time as an engineer takes up a good amount of someone's time, it has never stopped Pfeff from composing, recording, and performing innovative combinations of acoustic and electronic music at an intense pace. From 1996 through 1998 you may have seen Adam perform with the San Jose metal band known as Spitkiss. After Adam moved to San Diego in 1998 you may have seen him perform with the 6-piece all original jazz band known as Streaming Audio, the experimental electronic band known as XanaX, or the funk band known as Googaloo. As of 2004 Adam is still recording with some commercial success and a new found interest in producing surround sound music videos. You can purchase any one of Adam's 8 ground breaking CDs from Anti Matter on the internet at www.antimi.com. Adam's improvisations often sound premeditated, his style is technically maddening, his recordings are mesmerizing, his compositions always find creative cracks between genres, and if you've ever seen him perform you might think he's possessed. Every note is played as if it's his last. source: http://www.antimi.com |
